Club Ride Then More Hills!
On Wednesday (1st May) we treated ourselves to our first club ride for what seems like an age. I actually met Anne on my very first club ride with the Amigo’s 4 years ago. Two legends who lead one of the Amigo’s club rides are Di and Jeff. Don’t tell them I’ve told you this but these guys are a real inspiration to me and many others. If life was a wet sponge then I can assure you that Di and Jeff have rung every last drop from theirs. The adventures they have undertaken such as sailing the Atlantic and riding across America plus many others are awe inspiring. What a way to live your life.
But anyway I really enjoyed riding with the group. For the first 25k or so I rode at the front with Jeff before dropping back and firstly speaking to Petter (renowned for the creation of Petter’s Loop) and then Di. If was great to see them again. The roads were full of cyclists as May 1st here in Spain is a big national holiday. Anne was on the front after the café stop having a good natter with Jeff.
After the ride, which finished close to our homes, we decided to fuel up at my local restaurant “Lola’s. As it was May Day with many places shut we did not want to risk not being able to find somewhere open later. Lola even got her chef to cook us some pasta especially as it was not on the menu that day. And although we had to wait a while, as the restaurant was extremely busy, it really was well worth the wait. Vert tasty indeed!
Then off we went in search of hills aiming for another 100km and around 1000m of climbing. The predicted max temperature forecasted was 22C which was way below the 30C we experienced. We completed the loop without a stop running into a stiff headwind for the last 20k which although flat proved the toughest part of the day as the wind battered us.
